Is Memory Loss a Disease?
There are over 50 types of memory loss. Each is caused by an underlying physical change in the brain. The most common type of memory loss is Alzheimer’s disease. Some memory diseases are treatable and reversible. That is why it is it is important to see a physician and get the correct diagnosis. Many problems emerge for individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease may no longer be able to drive, hold a job, and eventually become dependent on others for all of their daily care. Often they experience changes in mood and are easily angered or become depressed. Family members must be caretakers as well as address legal issues that arise.
Sometimes having an individual with a memory problem can leave a spouse or child feeling frustrated and alone.
